Kelly Asbury is the Director of Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming all-new CG-animated feature film reboot of the popular Smurfs franchise, Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) (working title only), set for release on March 31, 2017. Asbury also Directed and Co-Wrote the 3D computer-animated feature film, Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) (Disney/Touchstone 2011). Asbury’s other past directorial efforts include the Oscar-nominated films, Shrek 2 (2004) (DreamWorks 2004) and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) (DreamWorks 2002). During his over thirty year career as an animation artist, Kelly Asbury has served many creative capacities on some of Hollywood’s most popular animated films, including “Frozen” (Disney 2013), “Wreck-It Ralph” (Disney 2013), “Shrek” (DreamWorks 2001), “Toy Story” (Disney/Pixar 1995), “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” (Disney/Touchstone 1993), “Beauty and the Beast” (Disney 1992) and “The Little Mermaid” (Disney 1989). Asbury also provided a variety of character voices on “Gnomeo and Juliet” (Disney/Touchstone 2011) and “Shrek 2” (DreamWorks 2001). In addition to films, Asbury is a noted author and illustrator of several published children’s books, as well as having written and compiled the offbeat, non-fiction book, “Dummy Days – America’s Favorite Ventriloquists from Radio and Early TV” (Angel City Press – 2003) Kelly Asbury resides in Southern California.
